New Orleans Is A Was Will Be

In 2006 Mother Mother travelled to New Orleans for the first time to do volunteer work with different communities in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. When she returned home to Washington, DC she found it difficult to answer the simple question, “So, how was New Orleans?” Seeking an expanded space to dialogue about the complexities of all she saw and experienced in New Orleans, she developed New Orleans Is A Was Will Be, an interactive performance piece that invites the community to participate in the telling—and questioning— of what happened in New Orleans.

Sncaktime Booty

Mother Mother dances to one of her favorite go-go anthems of all time while hungry munchkins demand that her dance joy not interrupt the distribution of their snacks. Healing from a protostar birth, Mother Mother intentionally documents the unseen labors of her belly and bodyscape, as she makes peace with the life that is no longer growing there. These booty-affirming dances are also a vital part of restoring her fertility radiance to prepare the way for the next starseed to come.

give thanks + The Mother Project

Mother Mother opens her first JOYISM! show with a movement prayer ritual called give thanks. Following the opening piece, Mother Mother welcomes everyone to the show and shares more about the intentionally interactive flow of this performance space. She then presents first three sections of The Mother Project, a choreopoem exploring the lives and labors of the mothers in her line.

BootyMa Makes the Sun Rise

BootyMa Makes the Sun Rise is an excerpt of the Booty Folklore constellation, a work inspired by our power to create and birth the stories that will nourish our future generations. All of the Booty Folklore works are experiments in myth creation, storytelling, body-mapping, and communiography that she expanded on when feeling into the Liberated Booty movement methodology. Liberated Booty, once upon a time known as Bootyism, was seeded from Mother Mother’s long and lonely healing labors when she was reclaiming her body joy after kaleidoscopic birthing journeys. In BootyMa Makes the Sun Rise, Mother Mother tells the story of how BootyMa accidentally shifts the rhythms of night and day for the whole Earth with her dancing booty.
