A Night In The Secret Garden

A Soils Lab with Ori | Practice Map

Wednesday | 15 June 2022 | 6pm ET

The Secret Garden is a container for exploring our healing in through the use of plant medicine. This Soils Lab will be an introduction to the growing components of the Secret Garden, my hopes and dreams for this space and a small snippet of a flower based meditation I facilitated.

In 2020, I was seeding a vision of creating an herbal medicine and spiritual skill sharing space for folks to purchase handcrafted hand foraged herbal medicines and ebooks and workshops and more. I never got to see this dream come to fruition because I broke my leg and became very depressed. In 2021, I facilitated a workshop called The Secret Garden which centered four different plants and four different preparations to address blocks to our pleasure practices and acknowledge challenges in accessing pleasure. Since then, I have facilitated various workshops focused on herbal medicine and continued learning about pleasure centered herbs. I want to focus more on facilitating from an embodied space versus a thinking space, and move away from centering my analytical thinking brain so that I can move into doing and creating things that activate my pleasure centers. This Soils Lab feels like an opportunity for me to explore ways to evolve The Secret Garden.

The first portion will involve story sharing. The second portion will involve emotional release. The third portion will involve creating practices. The fourth portion will involve receiving wisdom from the medicines— an activation meditation.

this Soils Lab includes these elements:

Story sharing circle/dialogue circle
A workshop in development/experimental practice
An instructional class on a specific practice/tool/topic
Memory bank/archive development
Reading/showing of works in progress
Rest and reflection process

Remembering & Reflecting

meet the creator

Ori Yarborough
Ori is a hoodoo, historian and hottie with an affinity for herbal medicine, cartomancy and conjure. An eternal student of the esoteric, this primordial serpentine spirit loves to create spaces with her community to study hoodoo, share skills, and commune in Black joy. When they aren’t crafting or conjuring, you can find Ori watching horror movies, shopping for gold jewelry or kitchen witching, baking something delicious and decadent.

ABOUT OUR SOILS LAB

Soils Lab is a central component of Mother Mother’s evolving creative practice methodology, An Introduction to Soils: Preparing the Heart, Mind and Body for Deeply Generative Creations.

Soils Labs are where we explore practices that nourish our soil of creation, the substance from which we create everything we do. Soils Labs journey into diverse creative realms like writing, storytelling, visual art, sacred rituals, healing practices, movement, birth and fertility studies, and so much more. Every creator shares from the wealth of her brilliance, and we all grow from there.

ATTENDING SOILS LAB

Soils Labs are collaborative-time, virtual gatherings. To honor and protect the intimacy of our sharing, Soils Labs are not recorded. We are a Come As You Are congregation and you are welcome to attend as much or as little of the lab as you like. You must be a creator in the Garden who has confirmed conscious participation to receive the access link for the labs. Please visit the Fertility Abundance Garden Welcome Center to join the Garden and begin attending Soils Labs. If you have recently or previously joined the Garden, visit the Sanctuary to confirm or reconfirm your conscious participation.

ABOUT SOFT-TIME

The Garden thrives in soft-time expansions. While the Soils Lab is a collaborative-time gathering, we consciously create multiple points of engagement for all creators to participate in the majesty of our explorations and experiments, whether or not you attend the lab. In addition to the practice maps, our Soils Labs are archived in multiple places inside the Creators Portal and the Creators Shared Diary. We also extend conversations and discovery opportunities in the Creators Channel and Fertile Majesties groups. Mattering soft-time practice spaces is a vital way that we disrupt mandates of capitalism, and continue to decentralize fixed-time and cumpulsory-time standards as universally legitimate and relevant. In making space for the diversity of our life rhythms and labors, we take great care to develop generative, nourishing methodologies that honor the fluid nature of our lives as creators.
